Kiran Bedi Biography
Former Indian Police Service agent and social activist Kiran Bedi was the country's first woman IPS recruit. Her contributions to conservation, prison reform, and women's empowerment are well-known. Her Early Life
Lt. Col. Ram Niwas and Kiran Bedi's Punjabi family welcomed Kiran Bedi into the world. During the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War, her father—a commander in the Indian Army—was killed in action. Her mother, Kiran Bedi, is a social worker who set up the Bandage Factory Outreach Programme for the rehabilitation of leprosy patients and assisted in founding the Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture (RCVT) in New Delhi. Dr Kiran Bedi has received the Padma Shri, which is a distinction bestowed by the Indian government.
Her College Days

Her First Marriage
In 1972, Brij Bedi, an engineer with Indian Airlines, and Kiran Bedi, the IPS officer got married. In 1978, the couple gave birth to a baby, a daughter. Since Kiran Bedi was the first woman to serve in the Indian Police Service (IPS), many Indian women have been inspired by her marriage. Since then, the couple has welcomed two additional kids. They have demonstrated a deep dedication to their marriage and children and have served as an example for other couples. The couple is an inspiration to other couples because they have been married happily for almost 50 years. Kiran Bedi's present status is a widow.
Her Rise as a Social Activist
Social activist Kiran Bedi has recently made headlines. Her efforts have mainly been directed towards advancing women's rights and gender equality. Kiran Bedi's current post is that women and men should be treated equally as citizens. She also thinks women need to have access to the same advantages as males. She assists women in achieving this by giving them access to legal aid and legal education. In 1972, Kiran Bedi was the latest news as she became active in social activity. Her Role in the Judiciary
She was proposed by the NDA administration in 2015 for the position of Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. She received the Padma Vibhushan, one of India's highest civilian honors, in the same year. Bedi, who was in the working class, joined the Indian Police Service in 1972. In 1988, she was appointed India's first female auditor general of police. During a vacation in Amritsar in 1973, she started her career as a social activist. She gave up her vacation to help the Missionaries of Charity after becoming infuriated by the brutality and poverty she witnessed.
